We skulk among the dark shadows of our lives, eking out some meager existence on the outskirts of eternity. Living by our wits! It’s the only way of life. The only sane alternative to accepting handouts that wound the ego. Why should we bow to the generosity of some Dude that says He loves us? Just so we can have it easy? We are all honest, hard-working, and capable. We don’t need anyone’s charity. We’ve got this, man.

Yet, just below the surface, the claws of the machine are scuttling, clacking, waiting for their prey. “Just a bit longer. Wait, until the flesh is ripe, the mind made up, and the face set like flint. Then, strike.”

But, in the eastern sky, a Light looms large, moving closer, illuminating the dirty windows and alleyways of our optional dystopia. Slowly, incessantly, methodically, it ascends. Prying open our eyes, it awakens us from last night’s bacchanalia. Shielding our faces, we stand up, called from our slumber, our meth-fueled insomnia, like zombies.

Crawling out of our covenant controlled caverns, our hipster tenement fantasies, we arise. We arise, to see something like the sun. We follow it, hoping, forgetting for one split second, our independence.

Migrating to the hills, we congregate on a great expanse, and listen to the One who speaks eternally: “Come to me, all you who are heavy-laden. My yoke is easy, my burden is light. Come to me, and I will give you rest.” “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father, but through me”. “For God so loved the world, he gave his only son. Whoever believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.”

So now, on the eve of the Light’s Looming Victory, we wait. Expectant of some great miracle, they say will liberate us. But, will it be enough to change us? Or, will we witness the Eternal, like some grand detonation, and return to our holes? Will we put on our shades, and go through the motions, hoping it will all be over soon, so we can go back to bed?

No! Let this be the day, the hour, the moment. Let this be the time, when all things change.

The Eternal God waits for us at His table. He stands at the door and knocks. Answer it! Do not keep Him waiting.

    1. Ellen,

Thanks for sharing this with folks. I am glad they liked it.

We just finished watching the last part of Franco Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth with everyone home for the weekend. I had forgotten how good it is.

Many Easter blessings to you and your family. He is risen indeed!

      In Him, Randy
