It seems, these days, that we are all so focused on results, productivity, and efficiency.
Where did this obsession come from?
How did we get to this place of feeling it our sacred duty to improve the “bottom line” for some unseen master?
Could it be that we have been deceived into a false sense of what it means to be happy?
Each year, we resolve to make changes to our lives designed to move us to some improved state. More money, less fat, higher position, greater peace…
It seems we are all geared to desire some higher state of being.
But, what if the state we truly desire is much more than all of this?
This, living on the “skin of eternity”?
Beyond the thin veil of our attempts at physical, emotional, and economic self-actualization lies the real reason for all of this.
We are invited to look beyond. To set our gaze on the true horizon. While, at the same time, holding loosely the things of this world.
What truly “moves the needle” in eternity is to love those around us, regardless of their “value” in the pragmatic sense.
The only bottom line that matters, is to share what we have with others, as a gift received without cost and given without charge.
