What is it about travel magazines? Each one presents a new world waiting to be experienced. People to meet, foods to be tasted, places to be explored.

The articles conjure up incredible images. Exotic atolls strewn across the South Pacific. Massive peaks shrouded in mist above a glassy fjord. Colorfully clad celebrants exulting at Carnival.

The allure of faraway places can be intoxicating.

What is it that we are hoping to find in our travels? For some, the answer revolves around self-discovery. Others seek relief from the everyday. Still others are looking for renewed relationships.

It seems that travel is a nexus between an exterior and interior geography. A place where we seek unity of body and soul.

Deep down inside we desire, and we seek to feed that desire through travel. Yet, even when we do travel, is it enough? Are we at peace at the end of the trip? In some ways yes, but in some important ways, no.

There is always something more that we want. Something that travel cannot ultimately satisfy. Something external and beyond ourselves, as well as something internal that we cannot quite identify.

We all long for eternity. Each of us has one lifetime to become ready to embrace it.
