I went to a wedding the other day. Afterwards, we gathered for the reception with friends, to toast, to dance, to celebrate, and to send off the young newlyweds into their new life together.
Everything was perfect. The old estate where the event was held. The sweeping vistas of the town below, with range upon range of mountains marching into the distance. The large crowd of well-dressed guests, young and old, were mingling, sipping wine, and taking pictures in front of the beautiful stone fireplace. The grand ballroom was covered in white marble. It was as if the room had been transported from Mr. Darcy’s mansion to the present day.
As I stood there with my wife, talking with friends, I thought, “wouldn’t it be perfect if we could live forever?” What is it about those occasions, those moments when we catch a glimpse of eternity, that we somehow “know” we are meant to live forever?
Let’s walk together, on a journey, a quest if you will. Join me as we seek the eternal, and all that makes it present in the here and now.
